Christmas for Everyone - St. Winifred’s School Choir
I mentioned this one in the review of “The McGarrigle Christmas Hour” so I thought I’d write a little about it. It may just be a totally personal thing since I don’t have a Christmas in my memory when we didn’t have this record playing in the house, but to me this album is as essential to Christmas as the tree and everything. It’s a real shame it’s not widely available anymore (and to be honest, I don’t know if it ever was – I have no idea where we got our copy) – at the time of writing, I can find just one copy on eBay.
Even putting aside the collective voices of the girls, which for me at least is always gonna be disarming (though some of the solos here I think will never be matched for the cute factor), the arrangements and production of the tracks here always makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. They even have coconut shells on “Little Donkey” and a bone fide recorder in “Away in a Manger”, what more could you ask for!? I plan to put a Christmas playlist on my radio thing before Christmas, and I’ll probably throw one of these tracks into the mix. I’m almost tempted to stick the whole thing up on Christmas Day or something unless someone wants to object, lol.

We have this on vinyl but I would really like it on CD. How could I get a copy?

I don’t think it’s on CD … my copy’s a digital recording of the old vinyl, I’ve been meaning to burn it to a CD for ages but I keep thinking I might try starting from scratch again and really spend some time cleaning up the hiss and crackle etc. Given its seemingly astonishing unpopularity, its age, and its obscurity, I don’t know … would I be in trouble to say stay in touch and I’ll send you a copy when I get round to doing all that? lol. Don’t get excited though, it could take ages … as a rule I only go near it in the month of December

Ah I almost forgot, too … in the meantime there’s this (but don’t ask me to seed again, I don’t think I have the files anymore, looks like someone’s seeding right now though)

Casper, if you are able to copy it could I be really cheeky and ask for one as well? I’ve been looking for this for years and have had no luck. It’s our favourite Christmas tape but has worn out from over use! Where did you find the digital recording?

In the 80’s I bought the record of St Winnifreds school choir singing carols, called Christmas for everyone. Unfortunately I lent it to someone, and never got it back. I loved this record, and would love to get another copy, although now I would prefer a cd copy of it. Is there anywhere I can purchase or get it from please?

Caspar
Have you been able to burn a CD since your last comment? We have an old vinyl record that is not in too good a condition….

If anyone has managed to get this on CD, or knows where to get it from, PLEASE let me know. I used to have this on tape as a little girl & listened to it so much over the years it wore out. I would love to own it again, especially as I have my own family now
