X-Men: The Last Stand

X-Men: The Last Stand 3 star

A little too over-the-top and Michael Bay ish – like, for example, isn’t there an easier way to get onto Alcatraz island when you’re a mutant than moving the Golden Gate Bridge? One can imagine some idiot executive yelling during a screening, “wait, they might’ve forgotten that the guy called Magneto has powers of magnetism!!!” But, y’know, for me, this is just as good as the other two installments in a series where my only real interest has ever been in Anna Paquin – it’s slick on the effects, mostly flawless on the acting, solid in the music and other departments, and with the rare gift of having a strong message in a mainstream blockbuster (“We don’t need a cure, because there is no disease.” ... could it be any more about homosexuality? lol) ... albeit far less bold than everyone involved clearly thinks it is.

One huge complaint, though – why in god’s name do we not see Rogue kiss her boyfriend at the end? This could’ve been such an emotional moment, like she can finally kiss the person she loves after never being able to touch anybody, and it’s like, a touch of the hand and off to the next closing moment. Did my copy of the movie skip or something? It just seems insane to me that this is missing. Maybe I’m just oversentimental, maybe the touch of the hand is enough for some – I mean, I’m the one who goes gaga over a brush of a finger in The Silence of the Lambs, lol – but I think this is just one of many instances where this movie just doesn’t take advantages of opportunities just sitting there in plain sight, things that would’ve made it so much bigger and better … as big, perhaps, as it thinks it is, even.
