Wild Strawberries
This is one of the more critically acclaimed of Bergman’s movies, and it’s pretty damn impressive how this came out the same year as The Seventh Seal – like proof was needed of how amazing a director this guy is. I don’t know what to say about the movie, except to echo the comments made by the director himself in some notes on the DVD, about Victor Sjöström, the lead actor’s, face, which almost makes the movie by itself. The story is basically of an elderly man having a crisis over impending death, having flashbacks on his life and feeling that he didn’t do enough. He picks up some young people on a roadtrip to pick up some honour for his work as a doctor (I believe this is the flow of events – the timeline is really convoluted so I apologise if I’m totally screwing up this summary). That’s kind of the story in a nutshell.
It really requires another viewing or two, and the Criterion DVD is a really tempting option to fix that
I’m amazed I even came up with a paragraph of stuff to say lol.
