I noticed while I was watching this and browsing its IMDb entry that there’s a sequel in the works. It kind of amazes me how a movie can so completely rip off the look of The Matrix (a series that itself pretty much self-destructed in the end) and be lucrative enough for a sequel to happen. (And I realise that hundreds of movies and TV shows and advertisements have ripped off the Matrix look to some extent… but really, this one truly earns the term rip-off…)

One thing I will say for Underworld is that it’s at least better than Van Helsing. Really, though, it’s just Blade meets The Matrix with werewolves too and Kate Beckinsale in a catsuit. Miow. And overlong too – movies like this should not pass the 2 hour mark.

Bill Nighy rocks in his part as the über-Vampire king or whatever. I think I’ve finally become a bit of a fan of his now after Love Actually (which, despite being really really good, I just can’t bring myself to really really love) and Shaun of the Dead.
