Virgin Viewing, yup. Unbelievable that I haven’t seen this… in fact I really thought I had seen it. But I think I had only seen parts of it, possibly the beginning and end, and the movie it’s based on, La Jétee, which I saw a number of times on FilmFour when I had Sky TV.

The main thing I had not seen before was the whole animals out of the zoo montage. It’s short, but makes the movie for me. It’s pure Terry Gilliam, reminded me of my favourite film of his so far, The Fisher King which I must see again soon.

This is a truly amazing movie, with great performances from absolutely everyone and one of the best movie themes of all time, by Paul Buckmaster, who strangely seems to have done little else (have since discovered the theme came from Suite Punta Del Este by Astor Piazzola, sorry ‘bout that …).
