The Woods
Kinda the same situation as Silent Hill here, albeit with far less pleasing results. I loved Lucky McKee’s last movie, May, and I’ve been waiting for this one to see the light of day, feels like, ever since. But Lucky McKee is only directing here, not writing and I think for me that’s the problem. This movie just didn’t do anything for me at all. It feels a lot like Lost and Delirious was too boring for somebody so they jazzed it up with the first horror element that seemed to fit. The movie somehow manages to be simultaneously too cryptic and too literal for my tastes. There’s a nice 50s soundtrack, and a few May-ish laughs … but overall, I found it a real disappointment after all this waiting. Even Patricia Clarkson is dull in this movie, just standing on the sidelines smiling knowingly at everything. It’s frankly annoying, lol.
