The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm

The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm 2 stars

Anyone would think I had some kind of obsession, lol. I just figured what the hell after watching the two Red Riding Hoods. Sadly, this is closer to Kleiser than to Cimini, Gilliam, or even Hoodwinked! – though I guess at least they used an orchestra for the music, lol, not that they had much choice in ‘62.

My closest point of reference here seems to be the wonderful Fiona Fullerton version of Alice in Wonderland, featuring, as here, “an array of famous faces” and lavish set designs – but I know which one I’d rather be watching. Frankly, this movie bored me insanely, and though it was clearly made with care and does have the odd pleasant surprise, I’m sure I’ll never watch it again. The ridiculously overly-self-righteous ending (“Oh, Mr. Grimm, but if you die we’ll never be born! We’ll never be born!”) is really the last straw for me. I can’t believe this is the second movie in as many days to have me recommend Hoodwinked! ... but what can I say? It is.
