The Terminal
I thought I’d have an older review to work on with this one; unfortunately not, so I might be unnecessarily brief.
On my first viewing of the movie, I absolutely loved it. To me it was almost completely a blending of The Truman Show (whose screenwriter came up with the story here) and Catch Me If You Can (which, of course, shared a couple of major players with this one), both of which are among my favourite movies ever.
The second time around, I’m more aware of being just a little… okay, a lot... overwhelmed by the ending. But what an ending it is. Tom Hanks’ performance is brilliant throughout, but nothing can prepare for the joy that comes from him in the final scenes as he finally accomplishes his beautifully simple goal (which I won’t spoil by mentioning here).
I’m still, and probably forever will be, overwhelmed by that ending – and the rest of the movie flows as you’d expect from one of the greatest storytellers – but I’ll admit it’s not quite as much an all-time favourite of mine as I thought after that first taste.
