The Rage: Carrie 2

The Rage: Carrie 2 4 star

This is really nicely done. While, mainly due to the time period, the tone is more like that of the Angela Bettis 2002 remake of the classic, brilliant original, the return of Amy Irving as Sue Snell is instantly re-assuring as the opening credits roll (if I knew she was in this before, I’d forgotten today). This goes way against the usual grain of sequel production and is nothing like what I expected. All the elements are present, but it’s always twisted around somehow, and as a whole it’s altogether a different movie from the original.

Of course, the key to any Carrie sequel was gonna always be the climax. Director Katt Shea does a stunning job and some of the last 10 minutes of this movie would fit into any 70s or 80s video nasty, or even, dare I say it?, De Palma’s original. If I was going by what I was expecting from this movie, I’d be giving it a 5 simply for how pleasant a surprise it was. As it is, it’s a pretty high 4. I’ll be watching this again for sure.
