I will probably repeat here mostly what I wrote of the first Pink Panther remake … in a nutshell, I still feel compelled when I hear people decrying how awful these movies are to point out that the originals were no comic masterpieces either. I didn’t have nearly as much fun watching this movie as I did the first with Steve Martin’s Clouseau, but I still went in with the same soft spot for his interpretation of the character Peter Sellers originated. I wrote on Twitter while watching that it took about 40 minutes for this one to get its first real laugh out of me, but I find myself fairly uncomplaining overall. This movie is what it is and there are hundreds of worse movies out there. I would of course prefer to see Steve Martin in another Bowfinger or Spanish Prisoner than this … but I would much prefer to see him being silly like this with the likes of John Cleese, Alfred Molina and Jeremy Irons than another Cheaper by the Dozen. It’s really simple as that.
