The Passion of Anna
This movie goes in with The Seventh Seal and Cries and Whispers as a movie I really can’t say much about until I see it again. I really couldn’t follow exactly what was going on, but like the other two movies just mentioned, you just get this instant feeling that at least the film maker knows what he’s talking about. There are decent performances and weird disorienting “interludes” where the lead actors talk to the camera about their characters. Like I said, I don’t know exactly what was going on in the story, but I nevertheless felt a growing sense of dread and discomfort that I’ve never felt quite the same way in any other film I’ve seen. No idea what else to say of it. Unlike some other Bergman movies, this one does seem to have a “proper” ending to it, so there’s another point in its favour.
