Basically a retread of Kindergarten Cop and though it’s nowhere as good as that movie was, it’s really not as bad as I thought it was gonna be. While Kindergarten … was ultimately more an adult’s movie, The Pacifier is PG all the way. This makes the opening 10 minutes kind of baffling to me. There must’ve been riots in some cinemas showing this with kids getting bored out of their minds at the complete lack of anything on screen “for them”. Once it gets going, though, the adult/kid blend is pretty even. There’s a nice sequence where Vin Diesel has to play hopscotch etc to cross a series of obstacles. There’s a nice little running “Sound of Music” thing (I just noticed the family’s surname in the movie is Plummer – hahaha) and Carol Kane is great as she always is. Really not such a waste of time.
