The Man With the Golden Arm
Though it’s undoubtedly impressive for its time (1955), this movie wasn’t quite as intense as I’d expected from the clips I’d seen over the years. While I understand there were certain things they couldn’t show back then (though here they do show plenty), the way Sinatra recovers from cold turkey towards the end seems far too easy; and at the end, they just walk away? It didn’t feel like enough closure for me. Elmer Bernstein’s near wall-to-wall score is both catchy and wonderful, though.
