The Lookout
I’d heard about Joseph Gordon Levitt’s performance here and having loved him pretty much since Third Rock, liking his work in Mysterious Skin and Brick, I wasn’t surprised to find him just as great if not greater here. I was more surprised by Jeff Daniels, who delivers a fantastic performance as Levitt’s blind roommate. As to the rest of the movie, it kind of reminded me of another screenwriter’s directorial debut, The Way of the Gun in the way it’s so unabashedly macho, yet so brilliantly written, so deep, that when real action breaks out at the end it comes as a genuine surprise. James Newton Howard’s score is definitely one I’ll be listening to in iTunes, and the movie is definitely one I’ll be watching again and soon.
