The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou
Like Wes Anderson’s other work, this managed to make me chuckle a handful of times but didn’t strike me as anything special. Cate Blanchett livens things up in the same way she did as Katherine Hepburn in The Aviator. Like The Royal Tenenbaums, for me it’s a near two-hour long movie, very nicely designed and well-acted, in which very little of note really happens to some fairly forgettable characters. I guess I just don’t get it :-p

With the exception of The Royal Tenenbaums (which I adored), I feel much as you about Wes Anderson’s films. They just don’t really click for me.
BTW, did you get to sample the commentary for The Life Aquatic? Anderson and his co-writer recorded it in the restaurant where they wrote the script. It’s a unique idea but ultimately the background noise from other patrons makes listening intolerable.
