The League of Gentlemen’s Apocalypse
It’s almost the mess I expected after seeing the various clips that came out online, on TV shows, etc … but this movie is also kind of ingenius and it’s a certain future DVD purchase. I kind of don’t know what to say about it as yet. Joby Talbot’s score is, as always, brilliant, the League are in top form, especially Reece Sheersmith (making Geoff – or George of Asda as the case may be lol – the “hero” was a great move, he’s the strongest character of the bunch, I think), and the concept shows a lot of effort compared to the usual TV-movie transfer. If only the “Red Dwarf” movie could turn out this inventive (if they’re still even bothering with that). The ending is fabulous, I even caught some tears in my eyes, much like the last episode of Series 3 of the show (which, incidentally, seems to have been cut out of continuity here). It of course then throws you out with a brilliant twist I didn’t see coming at all. It’s annoying that Jeremy Dyson couldn’t have played himself, though.

I know. It’s such a small part that I’m sure Jeremy could’ve pulled it off. One of the interviews said that they like the film opening up with a ‘famous’ actor; it tells you that something odd is going on. (Or something. I don’t remember their exact words.)
I didn’t much care for the “King’s Evil” scenes (well, what I saw of them..) but I adore all the bits where the characters and creators meet. The DVD should be awesome.
