Though the animation outside of the monsters and the turtles themselves here veers somewhere between a slightly dodgy imitation of Pixar’s Incredibles style way down to Bratz/Barbie style TV-knock-offs (and why the hell have they made Splinter look like Puss in Boots from Shrek 2 lol?), the turtles themselves and the set-pieces are sometimes pretty damn amazing. There’s a fight between Leonardo and Raphael midway in the rain that actually slightly blew my mind, I forgot that they weren’t men in suits for a second, it’s really a tour-de-force of computer animation as far as I’m concerned. Or, at the very least, when Andrew Lloyd Webber finally gets round to that show (and lets face it, it looks like he wants to cinematize them all), it’s Pixar he should turn to. For this movie is exactly as I imagine a “Starlight Express” movie to look. Exactly.
