I knew literally nothing about this movie before watching it, I even had it associated in my mind with completely different film makers for some reason. It had a great title, that’s all I knew, no trailers, no blurbs, not a clue. This might be the best way to watch it. The movie has its duller moments and frequently feels like it’s lost its direction, but overall it’s a real adult drama like The Ice Storm or In the Bedroom – yes, incredibly depressing stuff. There’s a heap of great lines, great performances even in the tiniest roles, and a score by Rachel Portman which is among the few in recent memory I actually wouldn’t mind buying on CD.
