The Fabulous Baker Boys
At first, this movie didn’t hold my attention nearly as I well as I’d expected it to, but I really like how it builds to making its point. Dave Grusin’s score is gorgeous, adding soul to every scene. I want to say this movie feels sad but that’s the wrong word – it’s the kind of movie you can just sit back and get completely lost in, it has real mood to it – maybe moody’s the word I was looking for.
Michelle Pfeiffer is amazing, as are Jeff and Beau Bridges as the brothers. There’s so much talent on display in this movie, makes the whole thing so much more realistic and heartfelt. It really grows on you.
I want to say how much I ended up loving this movie, so I’m a little hesitant to point out the jarring glitch in one scene where you see a camera man blatantly rushing around in the background – these things annoy the hell out of me, and in a movie as otherwise slick and careful as this one, it’s a real downer to see.
I’ll definitely be getting the soundtrack to this one day.
