The Dinosaur Hunter
Blah … I really thought this might be better than it turned out to be. I was flicking through the channels a few months ago and saw a very cute, very young Alison Pill crying and made a note to record this the next time it screened. She’s as watchable as ever, and there are a few pretty moving moments (the funeral of a miscarriage is almost bizarrely drab and harrowing for a kids’ movie), but overall it’s quite boring. I think it’s meant to be set in the Thirties but I spotted some very modern looking machinery in an early scene (it reappears later, too) ... whether it’s an oopsie or I just missed when it is supposed to be set, I don’t know (and whether I care or not, I don’t know, lol). With movies like this I kind of introduced another scale to my ratings system middle of last year which is, would I be happy with my future kids watching this? And the answer here is definitely yes. It might not be well-made or interesting, but it’s at least not as dumb or shallow as so many movies aimed at children; and with Alison Pill, there’s at least something for me too
Sigh I love that nose lol. I know, I’m weird.
