I’m sure I’ve said many times how I love evil children in cinema, lol, so this was destined to please me. With all I’ve been pondering the past few years, you’ve gotta know that the addition of smug parents who frankly deserve all that’s coming to them here was icing on the cake. This is the kind of simple British horror that really can’t fail. It reminded me at times of an episode of Hammer House of Horror I still haven’t actually seen all the way through. It captures the discomfort of a family gathering near perfectly … right down to slightly incestuous rumblings. The gore is satisfyingly “ouch” and there’s some neat homages here and there, particularly a Shining one towards the end that really made me laugh. It’s not mindblowingly brilliant but it would make a good double with Eden Lake to convince you we might afteralll be moving in the right direction with British horror.
