The Brave
Ahh… Johnny Depp’s directorial effort. This was apparently before he met Vanessa Paradis (as far as I’ve gathered, on the set of The Ninth Gate), albeit only a short time before, and though we nobodies can only ever speculate on these things until we become close friends of the stars (hope hope! lol), I’ve always noted that Johnny Depp’s amazing success these days is pretty much a result of how she (and their kids) “rescued” him. The Brave really makes Johnny look very depressed indeed. It’s a fascinating movie, to be sure, and I’m afraid that its relative lack of success may have dissuaded Depp from trying again (he was rumoured to be directing a segment of the forthcoming Paris, je T’aime, but no longer seems to be involved)... I’d love to see more from him behind the camera, ‘cos he’s possibly the most simultaneously honest and intelligent person up on high in highest Hollywoodland. The Brave, however, just turns out to be an annoying curiosity.
