The Assassination of Richard Nixon
Sean Penn excels … again … in a movie that recalls Taxi Driver. This movie really blew me away. I can’t really think of a lot to say about it, but I think this could be the movie I was talking about in my review of Network. It’s not hard to see how little has changed in the world since 1974. As someone recently noted on the IMDb message boards, there are even more people like Sam Bicke around, and it could be just a matter of time before someone tries something similar. This movie illustrates how horrifyingly slim the line between “normal” and “madness” is, and Penn’s descent from a man on the up, trying to make ends meet, to desperate hijacker is truly tragic.
