The Aristocrats

The Aristocrats 1 star

Really could’ve almost walked out on this one if I was the kind of person who walks out of things … For the record, though I took this out of my Documentary Feature category of my Oscar Predictions for next year after the shortlist was announced, I would’ve been hurriedly removing it right now anyway. I don’t know why but I thought this movie would be interesting. I thought, at least, that it’d be funny with people like Whoopi Goldberg, Robin Williams, Eric Idle, Penn and Teller, and Billy Connelly involved. I’ve never seen the humour in the gag this documentary tells hundreds of different ways, and not one of the comedians telling it made me crack more than the tiniest smile. Not even the infamous South Park version. The joke just isn’t funny. Vulgar, yeh; sick, yeh; funny … it’s just … not. If anything it’s boring. The variations on it here aren’t even varied enough to carry 90 minutes. They should’ve kept this one behind closed doors. But, just in case you ever wondered where “the line” is drawn, I promise you’ll find it in here.
