It’s slickly done like the Texas Chainsaw remake, mostly well acted and everything, especially Melissa George (Angel from “Home and Away,” people!!) but I really don’t like what they’ve done with the story while holding on to the “true story” tagline – I mean, I really really don’t like what they’ve done and I’m not surprised that George Lutz is suing them. It’s possible I wouldn’t have even thought about this had I not watched the documentary on it last week, but still, to portray a guy who’s still alive this way who – no matter what “really happened” – has been through some horrible stuff is just cruel. Even all that extraneous stuff aside, on simple film grounds, why exactly are we supposed to care about this guy in the second half of the movie? I don’t know, it just left a really bitter taste in my mouth and made me think even more highly of the original. Like Lutz said in the documentary (hah, ironic), “That version is like a documentary compared to this thing they’ve done recently.”
