Student Bodies

Student Bodies 2 stars

“This movie is based on true incidents. 26 horror movies were released last year. Not one of them lost money.”

Yes. Very good start. Sad about the rest …

It’s very easy to compare this one to the Scream trilogy – it liberally pokes fun at the genre whilst actually going through the motions itself (unlike the Scary Movies, for example, which by now are simply jukebox spoof reels) – but I’d rather not. For though that opening title card quoted above is not the only gag that made me laugh out loud, the laughs are still very few and far between. One such gag is “The Breather” – the movie’s villain, basically a gag on the heavy-breathing guy found in many slashers. To say this gag is overplayed is a painful understatement … it genuinely brought me closer to turning off/walking out of a movie midway since I saw Lost in Space for the first time. It’s just plain annoying. Then there are Kentucky Fried Movie/Monty Python style cutaways, like to a standalone “Fuck You” to the MPAA. In short, the movie doesn’t know what it’s doing.

It’s worth a look if you’re a fan of the genre, and for the fact it makes the Scream trilogy look even better; in fact, it even does favours to the Scary Movies, lol.

Oh, I’ve seen this one! We watched it at some summer program when I was 16 – until the adult chaperones thought better and shut it off (prolly since all the victims were having sex when they were killed LOL). I eventually caught the rest on late night TV. I remember it being hilarious. Wish it was on DVD. (Though I do notice it’s on Demonoid!)
