Sin City

Sin City 3 star

I don’t know quite what I expected of Sin City – I mean, I knew it’d be violent, but this was way beyond, way more gritty, way more unsettling. It’s not just the subject matter (the full storyline traces a child molester who first loses his victim and later tracks her down), it’s the way it’s presented, you can’t help but wonder if the comic book style is appropriate. Though technically nifty, aside from it’s intensely moving opening, Sin City is disappointingly devoid of substance. I chose not to look up which part Quentin Tarantino directed (it’s in my subconscious somewhere because I once read about it), and I couldn’t tell any difference in style through the movie. It’s glossier and slicker than Rodriguez’s output so far, but yet again he’s missing that key ingredient that makes the damn thing get in here (wherever the hell here is, lol).
