Typical … I’ve been holding off seeing part 4 since I hadn’t seen this installment (not that it would matter – I know, these movies don’t really have a big oversweeping story, I just like to watch things the right way) only to realise while watching that I hadn’t seen part 2 yet anyway.

Though, like a lot of movies of its kind, it often falls on its ass in a bad way, and some of the jokes are even further off the mark than that (I think the president’s assistant shooting a hole through a portrait of Mother Theresa after the president headbutts a handicapped girl about sums it up), I’ve gotta say, once again I found myself close to tears with laughter in places. The movie parodies are quite amazingly sophisticated in their execution, pinning down the foibles of the horror genre almost as well as Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson did in the Scream trilogy (in fact, to be fair, the sequels in this series are proving to be easily better than the sequels in that one). There’s a reason to hate these kinds of movies, I guess … but y’know, these days, there are far worse things than a good ribbing.
