Ravenous
Everyone seems to have their own take on this one, and I was looking forward to seeing it. It’s far from what I expected (not that I could even tell you what I expected, I have no idea), right from the period setting on up. I for one couldn’t see the campness or the comedy I’ve read mention of elsewhere – but creepy, crazy, and slightly brilliant, I’ll definitely agree on. Some of the imagery, the gore, just the very look of Robert Carlyle’s character at the beginning, is truly the stuff of nightmares for me. The movie can also lay claim to one of the most bizarrely eclectic scores I’ve ever heard (well, what else would you expect from a meeting between Michael Nyman and Damon Albarn?) Definitely one I’ll be watching again.
