Pushing Tin
I have to admit, I only watched the last 2/3rds of this tonight, but it’s long overdue a review here. It used to be one of my absolute favourite movies, and it will definitely be again some day soon. Back then, it was the whole jealousy breakdown theme really hit me in a place I didn’t know existed* – now, it’s still definitely a factor, but there’s so many more things I love about the movie. It has an unbelievable cast (my favourite John Cusack performance, I think, Angelina Jolie when she was doing that amazing angry thing, supercool Billy Bob Thornton and Cate Blanchett as always), I love Anne Dudley’s score, and it’s just full of those little random things that make me love a movie (“We did it upside down, sideways … we shoulda worn helmets!” “I gotta think less – I had that thought actually …”). Better review next time, I promise … I just needed to give this movie a place on the site.
* This was around the time of The End of the Affair too, IIRC … could be an idea for one of my random and seemingly meaningless double bill recommendations.
