Notes on a Scandal
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes
This couldn’t have resembled more the movie I wanted to see after hearing so much about it. When I noticed before watching that it was only 90 minutes long my anticipation was even greater. Cate Blanchett and Judi Dench are simply electric together onscreen, and here also in Bill Nighy is another supporting performance overlooked at this year’s Oscars to complete the set with Michael Sheen and James McAvoy (these three should easily have been in the place of Alan Arkin, Mark Wahlberg and Eddie Murphy as far as I’m concerned). The whole thing is so shamelessly over-the-top, it boils down to moments like Dench saying to Blanchett, “You’re NOT YOUNG!”, Blanchett bursting out of Dench’s flat screaming, nay roaring, at the press, “HERE I AM!” and the boy’s mother coming over to give Blanchett a piece of her mind. It’s just a purely animal look at how animal people can be about relationships, hearsay, etc, ultimately posing the question of just who is the real predator? I’ll certainly be watching this again.
