Mulan II
Well, it’s Yet Another Disney Sequel. But it’s one I was greatly looking forward to. Disney have got wise of late and have been mostly bringing back the original vocal casts for their movies (one of the main reasons I love Hakuna Matata: Lion King 1 1/2 so much). Here they not only bring back the vocal cast (including Eddie Murphy and Ming-Na), but also the real star of the original movie, a woman who, because of the original movie, has pretty much shaped the last five years of my life, Lea Salonga. Again, I’m getting personal in a film review. But hey, film is a personal thing.
Musically, I couldn’t be happier with the film. Even the corny girl-pop rehash of “I wanna be like other girls” or whatever the song is called, that plays in the end credits, gives me a genuine buzz. This movie is incredibly girly, incredibly Disney, the South Park kids would call it gay. It’s nothing like the original – how could it be? But really, it works surprisingly well. For me. But then, I’m a Lea and Disney fan.
