Mr. Deeds
Finally, a movie I thought I’d reviewed before that I really have reviewed before, so not much to add here, though I’m upping its star rating to 4. I adore this movie. It’s just so full of love. I haven’t seen the Gary Cooper original, and though I want to, I guess I kinda know deep in my heart that it won’t touch me as much as the Adam Sandler remake, and I don’t wanna find myself in that culturally depraved position LOL. I need to bitch about Channel 5 though, they cut a bunch of stuff including the “I shat myself,” line I mentioned in the earlier review. Ruined it did they. Anyhoo, that’s all, I love this movie.
22nd August, 2005:
Love this movie. I think this was only my second viewing, unless perhaps I originally watched it as a rental DVD and watched it a “second” time with a commentary or something, still, I found myself laughing at stuff before it even happened, like the opera guy in the restaurant for instance (sorry, but I’m the kind of person who nearly pees themselves over a line like “I think … I just … shat myself …” lol)
Don’t let that last quote put you off … the movie is incredibly sweet, too. I love how Deeds’ home town is portrayed, it’s like a little crazy but never so crazy as to detract from how friendly a place it really is. I love how Deeds hugs everyone he meets in the big city, it’s just such a, “wait a sec, why doesn’t everyone do that?” thing. I even love the slightly wacky humour here, like the impromptu rendition of Bowie’s “Space Oddity” on the private jet, and the sudden appearance of various maids, butlers and chefs in Deeds’ new NYC apartment to demonstrate the echo effect of the huge interior. I’d watch this again anytime.
