Match Point

Match Point 3 star

I think I missed the point entirely here, and I can’t fathom the 8 IMDb rating. To me it’s just another Closer, a bunch of self-centred Londoners who want the moon on a stick and us to give a damn – only unlike Closer, this one didn’t even remotely grab me.

People are raving that this is Woody Allen’s best in years … it’s certainly different, in fact the least ‘Woody Allen’ movie he’s made ever, and there are a few nice lines and moments, but I’d personally sooner watch Deconstructing Harry or even Anything Else than this again.

I can’t help but think that if he’d done this in his usual New York style it could’ve been so much better and made so much more sense. One saving grace is that you get to see a little of the inside of the Palace Theatre towards the end, which, as I’ve said, is a beautiful theatre, and surprisingly also hear a little of “The Woman in White”, lol. Oh yeh, and two of the League of Gentlemen (Gatiss and Pemberton) unless you blink.

I watched Birthday Girl and Bright Young Things merely for their LOG cameos. I imagine the same will happen here. Steve Pemberton had a similar blink-and-you’ll-miss-him appearance at the Golden Globes broadcast during the Viva Blackpool (known to you Brits as just Blackpool) clip. It’s just sad how excited I was about that.

Speaking of Blackpool and LOG, did you watch Funland?

nope :-/ never watched Blackpool either, really wish I had, I’ll catch both on repeats at some point I’m sure :) Steve Pemberton’s in Lassie, too, lol, looks like a great role for him, dog-catcher I think, I was already gonna see the movie mid-way through the trailer ‘cos it looks surprisingly good but when I saw him it was officially a date :-p
