Lords of Dogtown

Lords of Dogtown 4 star

I had no idea what I’d think of this one – I loved Catherine Hardwicke’s last movie, Thirteen, and at one time or another two of my other favourite directors, David Fincher and Roger Avary, were attached to this one (Fincher still bears an executive producer credit). But then, it’s a sports movie. It had my attention all the way though. It’s beautifully photographed by Eliot Davis (who did Thirteen too) and Heath Ledger is pretty amazing as Skip – I actually spent the whole movie thinking he was Val Kilmer, lol. I imagine the documentary Dogtown and Z-boyz is better, but this was quite a surprise nonetheless.

[...] When I reviewed Lords of Dogtown I said I expected this documentary about the Zephyr skateboard team to be much better but I can’t say that’s the case.
