Leroy & Stitch

Leroy & Stitch 3 star

After two surprisingly enjoyable (not to mention pretty moving) sequels, I was really worried for a while here that they finally broke this one. I never watched the TV series (I like to watch series in the right order and that’s particularly difficult if you don’t catch it first time, the way kids shows are repeated all over the place), so I was expecting a slight disconnect (this starts with the news that Lilo and Stitch have finally captured all 625 missing experiments, presumably this is what the set-up of the series was – neat), but it wasn’t that which turned me off. The animation is definitely a little wanting here. But, surprise-surprise, once they started injecting bits of the Alan Silvestri score and showing things like Lilo alone on the hammock talking to her funky doll etc, I was taken into the ohana once more. And just as I began to fear there’d be no Elvis in the proceedings, literally at that second, they threw in one of the best Elvis moments since the first movie; the Jailhouse Rock ending ain’t too shabby either. I hope this is it now, though … I’m pretty certain the next one would break it. I’d love a DVD box set with everything (the 4 movies and the TV series) in now, though.
