Lava 3 star

Oddly, this kind of has the same things good about it as Chunky Monkey. In this case, Nicola Stapleton is typically underused, but at least she has nicer hair :) The whole thing is set against the backdrop of the Notting Hill Carnival and that side of it is really quite impressively handled for a generic low budget Brit flick. All that said, I completely tuned out towards the end, and despite some slightly dazzling use of colour and some great lines (“Anyway it’s not called shelf-stacking, it’s called shelf-rotation …” “Use your rotation skills then!” “But I don’t rotate black people, Smiggs, only food stuffs, ‘ousehold sometimes …” lol), it struggles to hide the fact that underneath it all, it’s that worst kind of British movie: a Guy Ritchie wannabe.
