Lake Placid

Lake Placid 3 star

I intended watch this way back on its release since I was quite well into “Ally McBeal” at the time (David E. Kelley, who created Ally, wrote the screenplay here) ... I don’t quite know what happened, where did 7 years go?

Anyway, sometimes, like yesterday when I watched this, all you need is a movie like this to get you back into watching movies. Its 5.2 score on IMDb is woefully low and indicates to me that a lot of people are taking it far too seriously. This is an Ed Wood type B-movie and tries to be nothing more. It’s full of hilarious lines (“If you call me ma’am one more time I will sue you, and with today’s laws it’s possible,” “I think you are a mental.”) and generally silly moments.

Bizarrely the movie gives 2 options for a sequel (the baby crocs; the possibly not-dead croc speeding down the motorway to who knows what destiny) but none has emerged yet, though I found some old news about a straight-to-video dealie. I’d love to see more of the same.
