Kung Fu Hustle

Kung Fu Hustle 4 star

I was expecting a lot from this movie and I wasn’t disappointed. As far as martial arts movies go, this is way up there as one of the best for me, its fight sequences ranging from Matrix-like to Looney Tunes. Ebert put it best, if the poster is quoting him correctly, “Imagine a film in which Jackie Chan and Buster Keaton meet Quentin Tarantino and Bugs Bunny.” I’d add one more to that mix though – the romantic subplot with the mute ice-cream girl is worthy of Charlie Chaplin and had me tearing up bigtime in the end. This is one I’ll be watching many times again in the future, looking forward to the sequel, and chasing up director Stephen Chow’s other work.
