Immortel (ad vitam)

This movie looked pretty incredible in the trailer but I have to admit I was disappointed. It looked like it might be good enough to challenge Sky Captain on the visuals front (well, time will still tell on that one I guess but if Sky Captain looks worse than this then we’re in trouble, lol), but while in places the movie is certainly beautiful to look it, too often it slips into gaming territory. It could certainly look better and feels like a rushed release. Maybe they’ll clean it up before it goes wider or something: being about 90% computer-generated, I guess in time they certainly will.

The tone of the movie is more like Blade Runner than any of the many other movies it resembles (The Fifth Element, The Matrix, you name it). It’s very open-ended, though it has more of a story than some reviews would have you believe. It’s just particularly hard to connect to.

It’s one I’ll look for on DVD for sure. Like the other movies it resembles, it’ll never be a favourite movie of mine, but these kind of movies always fascinate me on some other level I can’t leave alone however much I’d like to.
