How The Grinch Stole Christmas

How The Grinch Stole Christmas

I adore this movie. Not quite as much as Elf perhaps, but it’s certainly more than just a great Christmas movie to me.

It’s a little dodgy in places, hitting the necessary marks etc, perhaps rushing a little through the story, but there’s its only failing in my eyes. James Horner’s score, Jim Carrey’s performance, the amazing production design, add up to something really special.

To me, the greatest scene is The Grinch’s big realisation, “Christmas perhaps means a little bit more…” followed by a thunderous heart beat, and, “I’m all toasty inside – And I’m LEAKING!”

The old Boris Karloff animation is a superb version of the story (I can’t comment on the adaptation quality in either version since I’ve never read the book), but that was wholly more lighthearted; in the movie, there’s that tint of sadness I crave more than anything in cinema. A must-see every Christmas.
