This movie came out in the same year as Roman Polanski’s slightly similar and way superior Rosemary’s Baby. The problem with Hour of the Wolf is that it builds up the tension creepily enough, but fails, where Polanski’s film succeeds so fantastically, to deliver any kind of punch in the end. Max Von Sydow is great as always, and there are real elegant visual touches, and it’s at times pretty scary. It just doesn’t go anywhere in the end.
