High School Musical 2
There’s a lot more to love here than I found in the first movie, but a lot less to say (especially, like I said in the last review, after a few days dithering, lol). All in all, my feelings here are the same as the first – much as I hate the first Grease movie, I love the second, and I kind of wish they’d just gone ahead and made this franchise as much a part of that one as it pretty much is. I’m just stoked that “the youth of today” are being nurtured in the mere possibility of musical cinema, I guess. I found this one much more “designed”, distilled, simplified, and the better for it; like, how much pink do we need in Ashley Tisdale’s first song? Answer: not enough! And incidentally, while her name was previously confined to the “eww! dizzy blonde” sector of my brain, I have to say, if they get around to making a movie out of “Wicked” any time soon, she’s first on my list for a Galinda/Glinda, it’d be too perfect, lol. I loved the cheesy crap rendition of the main song too, by her and her brother. Which makes me suddenly realise, while I was watching the movie, that main song (which is every bit as good as “Start of Something New” from the first) was gonna be the first thing I mentioned in my review, yet here I am a paragraph in and not having mentioned it. So, hey, draw from that what you will
