Hellraiser: Inferno

Hellraiser: Inferno 3 star

Again, quite honestly, the more I think about this one, the more impressed I am by it. I couldn’t help taking a peek at the IMDb comments on it as it began, and the first one I came across pretty much nailed it. This is really quite a good movie … it’s just not Hellraiser, lol. It’s amazing how over the course of just 2 sequels we go from the jawdropping image of Pinhead in the crucifixion position at the end of Hell on Earth, to a space station in Bloodline, to basically Angel Heart here. Craig Sheffer is perhaps the best actor outside of Doug Bradley to grace the series up to this point, and the shot of him realising his fate at the end is worth watching the film for alone, it’s genuinely an extraordinary moment. Even the gore elevates towards the end here, something I wasn’t expecting, and overall while it fits into the original set-up even less than ever, it’s arguably the slickest and most consistent of the lot to this point. I’m interested to see where the remaining three go.
