Gremlins 2: The New Batch

Gremlins 2: The New Batch 3 star

Is there any way to forgive the Hulk Hogan bit in this movie? Surprisingly, I think there is. Though it’s one of those sequels that simply and lamely cashes in on the original by re-hashing the same events – the kind of sequel that existed before every sequel started getting reviewed as being “that rarity – a sequel that’s better than the original” – and though sometimes it is just plain awful and contrived in how it comes to re-hashing those events, some of the stuff around the badness is actually worth the suffering. I like the whole smart building idea, the silly voice, a lot like the ship’s computer in Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, announcing and describing everything as wonderful when in fact nothing works. And yep, I can confirm from the last review, Phoebe Cates gets cuter every time I see her; so she’s another reason to watch the movie. But, ultimately, yeh, I guess that Small Soldiers, Joe Dante’s own complete rip-off of his own work, is better than this sequel to it, is a pretty sad fact, lol.
