First thing’s first – this was a viewing of the dubbed version and oh, it’s pretty bad (the dub, not the movie). Unfortunately, I kinda had no choice – I’ve had this recorded off the TV and waiting to be watched for months so now that I finally felt the urge to sit down I wasn’t going to change my mind ‘cos it happened to be dubbed … who knows when I’d be in the mood again?

I really wanted to like this movie, but I find it really does nothing for me. It’s thought-provoking for sure, but these thoughts have been provoked many times before for me. Maybe if I’d seen it when it was first released I’d feel different about it. But I can only speak for my experience. Likewise the animation – it’s pretty amazing, but what anime or manga have I seen that isn’t?

I’ve always said variations on the idea that there are no good or bad movies, just good or bad timing. I’m sure a lot of people get a huge kick out of this movie for whatever reason … but it really does nothing for me. Nice toon boobies, though … can’t argue with those
