It’s very interesting watching this after Last House lol. Truly, compared to that, this is Tom & Jerry, and compared to this, that feels like a masterpiece. There’s little to say here but that this, while clearly stylistically better than Jason X, for example, can’t even compete with the Michael Bay and Marcus Nispel remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre let alone the original Friday or even some of its embarrassingly bad sequels.

Because Jason is the face of this franchise, clearly Bay and co wanted to get to the hockey-masked part of his story ASAP so we’re presented here with an over 20 minute (in this extended DVD cut, at least) pre-title sequence that covers two movies worth of exposition. I must admit this section isn’t bad … from then on however, we’re immediately in regular sequel territory with nothing new to behold. As a horror fan I can’t deny it’s perfectly decent background material, but I sure expect more from the Nightmare on Elm Street remake.
