The first in the Friday the 13th series feels altogether more together than any of the others in the series, feels more like a movie, kind of like Last House on the Left or The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Even though there’s no Jason Voorhees at this point (as anyone who’s seen Scream will be sure to know), it’s still definitively a slasher movie. The idea of a bunch of teens being systematically slaughtered still feels as fresh in this movie as it was at the time of its making.
