Forces of Nature

Forces of Nature

I saw this movie on the big screen, and most of the time I don’t usually see movies like this on the big screen, so I’m guessing that either there was very little on that week and I just wanted to go to the movies, or that I was thinking of how I loved the same director’s Harriet the Spy and wanted to see how her new movie looked. I’d like to think the latter was the real reason, ‘cos if it was, I wasn’t disappointed. I love Bronwyn Hughes’ visual style, and can’t wait to see what she’s done with Stander, which looks way more serious than her first two movies.

Forces of Nature is really just like any other romantic comedy type movie. But it looks gorgous. You get taken up top of trains stuck on bridges, there’s a hurricane destroying a wedding, and a great outdoor rain scene. But the cinematography is just amazing to me, I can just watch this movie for the images.

That element is alone, for me, seriously enough to bring it way up in my personal ratings system, but there’s just one other thing that elevates it that slight, but crucial, bit more, and that’s, yep, an ending that makes me cry. Sandra Bullock finally going to her kid, and her little poking-the-finger-in-the-rain gesture, just gets me.
