Aaahh … gorgeous movie, watched at random ‘cos it was on and I had the time … I always kind of pegged this as “not as good as Dirty Dancing, not as good as other Simpson/Bruckheimer productions, not as good as other Adrian Lyne movies” ... but judging by my smiley face at the end and the degree to which it made the hairs on my neck stand on end, I couldn’t have underestimated it more. Yes, it is that clichéd Simpson/Bruckheimer thing, an extended music video … but it is up there with the very best. Almost every shot in this movie is a beautiful image – Jennifer Beals lying on the floor talking to her dog, crying holding those ballet slippers to her face, celebrating the audition letter by dancing in the steelworks steam, they just keep on coming, and Georgio Moroder’s score and the soundtrack are impeccable accompaniment. Feelgood never felt better.
